National Apprenticeship Week will be celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. The week is designed to celebrate the positive impact apprenticeships and traineeships have on individuals and the economy. The week will bring together apprentices and employers to demonstrate the benefits that an apprenticeship can bring, including the opportunity to build a successful career.
It is universally accepted that the UK is facing a skills crisis and apprenticeships are proving a useful way to nurture STEM talent. The benefits work for both parties. The organisation encourages the right skills to future proof their business whilst the apprentice receives workplace training, experience and a salary.
Events will be taking place throughout the country to encourage young people to take an apprenticeship.
The YM Group has several apprentices working across the group in machine printing, print finishing and engineering.
Ray Beswick, Head of HR at Pindar explains the importance of apprenticeships to the business. “Our site in Scarborough is filled with highly skilled print operatives and engineers but we are very mindful of the future. Contingency planning and continually updating our in house skills is a priority. Our young apprentices coming through the business will play a key role in keeping the business moving forward and we actively encourage young people to apply for apprenticeships throughout the YM Group.”
