In January 2018 Guardian News & Media undertook the most broad-reaching newspaper rebranding for many years, with the relaunch of The Guardian and The Observer newspapers in tabloid size.
As part of this initiative YM Group was asked to create new ideas and formats for their portfolio of weekly and monthly magazine supplements. Inherent to this challenge was the requirement to produce magazines that are aesthetically pleasing and of the highest quality. Equally important was the need to ensure that manufacture is robust, paper efficient and workable to ever tighter schedules, with back up at all stages of production. There is no tolerance for late delivery into a daily newspaper.



In complete confidentiality over a six-month period many press trials took place following numerous client creative briefings. Different sized formats, paper stocks, press production routes and schedules were discussed and worked through together at length.
YM Group now produces supplements for Guardian News & Media, four weeklies and one monthly:

• The Observer Magazine
• The Guide
• Feast
• Review
• Observer Food Monthly

YM Group also wraps a sizable quantity of the weekly Saturday Guardian package.


In April 2018, just three months after the relaunch, Feast won the “Newsawards” National Newspaper Supplement/Magazine of the Year. The Observer Magazine and Review were also commended in the same category.
